Eaton kits are good for boosting power output and keeping reliability :)

Blimey Juan, anyone would think you were trying to create enough interest to organise a group buy! :D

I would say start with a Toothed belt kit, Raw is selling one (check the link) then this is ofcourse the obvious, the charger itself. Get it flowed by Jabbasport, pricey but worth it.

howdy dude, we are full of knowledge on here, but please do not spam the members by PMing everyone the same questions...

thanks :D

This is what I know; informed people should feel at liberty to make corrections , ou won't cause me any offence I'd recommend getting your charger serviced before putting a smaller pulley on it, that's what I did.

The bearings and seals inside will wear out and can damage the charger internals beyond repair if not replaced on time. If you know the service history of the charger you can decide not to but if unsure I'd recommend you get it done for piece of mid. The G40 chargers will need rebuilding after the first 60k miles than every 30-40k after that on a standard pulley.

If you put a smaller pulley on it speeds up (gears up) the charger and so you get more boost pressure and more Bhp but it also reduces the recommended service interval to 20k miles depending on how you drive etc and whether you use toothed or V belts.

Using a toothed pulley alows you to put less tension in the belts and therefore less load on the bearings in the charger, the result is a longer service interval maybe 25k between overhauls.

Chips: The standard chip will see the increased boost and adjust the fuelling to compensate but not as well as a chip with a map designed to run higher boost. Polo ECU chips are can be replaced with relatively cheep alternatives with less cautious setting (timing, fuelling & rev limit) than the factory and are good for a few Bhp

Porting: While you're having the charger rebuilt you can have the same people port out the air passages inside the charger, this reduces the drag and makes the charger more efficient and you will see a few more Bhp

De-wedging & GT inlet: de-wedging your Throttle body and replacing your inlet manifold along with other induction mods such as hard pipe kits and bigger throttle bodies will reduce the back pressure in the induction tract so you may see a reduction in boost, but this will mean more air is getting into the cylinders and you will get more Bhp

Bigger injectors: will enable you to run more power, the stock injectors are good for 160 Bhp ish, but at this power they are open all the time, which is not good, the bigger "green top" injectors that are commonly used are a direct replacement for the standard "red tops" in your G40, again you will need to use a different ECU map to compensate.

In summary get your charger serviced and ported. Buy the K&N filter, Green tops, toothed pulleys & chip I'm selling and you will have 140-150Bhp.

Then for phase 2 buy the light blue doors and the G60 seats I'm selling and you will have 170-180 Bhp!

the main advantage of toothed belts Raw didn't mention is that they don't slip at all, ever.  The standard v-belts can slip if they get wet and/or at higher RPM, if they are slipping then they aren't driving the charger.

Be careful with injectors, there are many different flow rates that people will refer to as "green top" or "red top".  Much better to not use that terminology but refer to them by flow rates.  Stock g40 ones are 180cc, the first usual upgrade ones are from a g60 and are 250cc.  Then above that, what g40 people tend to call "reds" are 310cc.  But not all 250cc injectors are green and not all green injectors are 250cc if you catch my drift (same goes for reds).

Worth pointing out a good exhaust and a decent four branch will help the air flow thus giving a few more bhp.
But remember the power is all relative to the condition of your engine in the first place, if it is in good shape and pulls strong you will get the power desired with the mods above but if not, then you BHP will be affected.

And lastly some useful mods to do once you have the power are brembo briaded hoses and dot 5:1 fluid, get the rear shoes adjusted up an your sorted. Breaks will improve considerable.

my advice would be to spend your first chunk of cash...or put money into maintenance before going for a ton of mods...good overhaul of some of the main components should be priority i think..oil change, new leads, cap, rotor arm, plugs and as many sensors as you can afford, a battery, coil, coolant flush and a good once over anything that looks worse for wear...new clutch and cable.  then i'd set about checking over the brakes and suspension checking everything is tight and maintained....after your happy with all this id go for the mods...then i think youll get the best out of them and the car will look aftr you...many people have fallen for the mods to then be let down by simple things going ..pop...and thats where the common 'g40's are unreliable' comes from... theyre right getting on now...so a bit of love goes a long way....thats my opinion anyways.

cant agree more. A highly strug G [like mine] finds the tiniest flaws and will torment you until you have got it running perfect.

1 year on and I am only just getting over all the issues that were never perfect when I got the car.

I cant stress enough how right dan is

thanks boys for you in depth help! ive done a few things like servising etc, if anybody has and tining parts or styling parts hanging around that may help, ide consider buying thanks dave
