hi people, new member here! should hopefully be getting my G40 this weekend ;D

have a question for you guys in the know! The one im getting is left hand drive and Im considering making it right hand drive, with all the bits readily available I was wondering if someone could confirm that this would be possible? Is the chassis able to be converted by swapping over all the parts?

I would just get a right hand model but Im doing a deal with the current owner see!

Anyway nice to be here and hi!

Hi Chris and Welcome to the Club  :)

Don't change it, keep it as a left hooker 8)
Get some pictures up for us to nose at!

Noooooooooooo! keep it left hand drive :)

Looking forward to pics.  Nice to meet you

you'll find it harder that you think,

the brake servo will mess you up.

RHD conversion would be serious hassle, not worth it when you can get RHD ones already.  Either leave it LHD or buy a RHD G40 instead I reckon.  Technically speaking, the weight distribution should be slightly better with LHD and also you'll have bigger brake servo than you can fit in a RHD mk3 polo.

vwmk3jon

welcome. A said, keep it LHD and be different.

Hi all, as it would be my main winter car I dont know if I would like to be on the LH all the time, I do like the idea of leving as it is but as said above it might just be worth going RHD since im questioning it! I shall have to have a little thinky ::) :P

thanks for the welcomes!

main winter car? What you running in the summer then?

chrisimp

I have a turbo mx5 and my hillman imps <- love em :D

Iv had a few vw's mind my first car was a polo then ended up with three Sciroccos, beech buggy, baja, then a Corrado G60 which I miss big time!

if you want a RHD one I'd just buy a RHD one, buying a LHD and then trying to convert it is going to be hassle and work out more expensive.  Just not worth it when proper RHD ones are readily available.

samg40

Ah is this the one from Retro Rides? As said I would probably either keep it LHD or buy a right hooker if you cant be doing with a left. A conversion to a RHD shell maybe a better option than a left to right conversion?

chrisimp

Yes! thats the one, he's on hear too been reading his posts getting clued up on whats been happening with it! ;)
