Where are people getting G40 radiators from?  What sort of money should I be looking at?

hayesey

Last time I bought one was off german ebay, it was brand new, looked like a genuine part and had smooth end tanks but the core looked like the non-g40 one with fewer, bigger, tubes.  But I wouldn't also be surprised if that's also what you'd get from VW now.  I'm using it on my turbo g40 and it doesn't cause me any problems, never over heats.  I think it was about £70.

sam bought a non g40 one from euro - said was v cheap with the club polo discount!

chrisvwg40

£50 for a patern part from a local supplier.

djtez

gsf do one at £54

^ bear in mind that those wont be g40 ones.  But then I'm fairly convinced that what VW will sell you wont be g40 ones either so perhaps it doesn't matter!

djtez

what is the main difference?
CORE DIMENSIONS   433 X 299 X 22 mm

hayesey

the core is different.  GT/G40 radiator originally had more, smaller tubes through it which gives a greater cooling effect (more tube surface area for the same size of core).  You can see the difference if you have both sat next to each other.

But the supposedly genuine one I bought a few years ago had the non-g40 core and it wouldn't surprise me if they'd started using that as the spare part because it's cheaper.  Although I'm not sure you can buy any from VW any more.

Surprised if you can't get them from TPS. You could still get the mk2 G40 copper cored radiators last year....albeit for about the same price as a custom built one  :D

Yoof

Much better with ally over copper  ;)

Alex- if you're going big power & track work get a Pace one.

gofasterpinch

have you got a link to a Pace one?

the only other one i've seen is a radtec
