Hello,

I am going to buy filters and oil for my G this week and as I understand there are two types of engines which use different filters.

Type 1 85kW (198x-1990).
Type 2 83kW(1991-1994).

My question is what is the easiest way to tell which engine I have so I can pick the correct filters?

My shell has been changed so the VIN is not an option.

Thanks in advance!

type 2 seems the mk2f (mk3) coupe
the type 1 would be mk2's ..

What year is your engine .

The original shell of my engine is unknown. An engine swap has been made. That's why I can't use my VIN.

I don't know the year either.

I do know the serial of my engine. Can I determine it's type by the serial?
Isn't there some sensor position which can tell the engine type?

yours will be a 1990-1994 G40 engine, mk2 polo g40s are non-existent in the UK and VERY rare anywhere else.  But, either filter will actually fit.

That's even better.

Thanks a lot!
