GR40

Well after really hard abuse of my beloved G40 and a couple of repaired contacts of the car with immovable objects I believe that it is no longer viable to keep welding the various cracks that appear here and there and I have decided that its time to for it to go! Since in Greece its almost impossible to find another G40 (and even more impossible for it to be in a decent condition) I've decided to look for a 6N to make the transplant of my engine!

Now I know it has been done before and it's fairly easy as everything seems to go right in the 6N out of the G40 but what I am asking for is rather the odd things that doesn't quite fit or the things that I have to transfer from my G40 (pump for example) that are not that obvious!

The other thing that concerns me is the performance. The G40 weights 830kg while (according to various sites) the 6N weights 955kg and that seems like a lot for my 143hp to match my previous performance! Do I have to lose  125kg? or is it the engine/ transmission that makes all that difference in weigh?

Links of the procedure are also appreciated as I am going to be doing it myself to save money!

The extra weight will be in the bodyshell and it's associated parts, not the engine and transmission.
Why not re shell it into a normal mk3 or do you specifically want a 6N?

GR40

Cause eventually the mk3 will have the same problem as my current chassis. Mk3s in general are impossible to find in Greece while 6n are all around the place. I hate to have to remove the interior to match the g40 performance but it looks like the only way to go! Still in search though, if a mk3 miraculously appears I ll be sure to at least pay the owner a visit! But the 6n seems the only option right now!

i've always thought a g40 lupo would be fun!

Alex

6Ns rot really badly too. Really badly.

cheys03

What about a 6n2? Similar amount of work needed, but the body is galvanised and less susceptible to rust.

You can buy it for the price of a beer mate don't be foooooool Alex........
If you look better you'll see loads of mk3's. Just reshell it...

GR40

No license plates on this one mate! Still searching! Can w8 for some time till something pops up! The problem was never the rust on the car. Here in Greece the weather is really dry so for a car to rust it takes decades. Its rather an old wound on the chassis that has reappeared to finish it off.

cheys03

Out of interest, where are the cracks?

Justin14100

I welded many cracks on the front chassis legs up and they are fine, if its at the front I'd get them welded up - and get a subframe to strengthen the whole front end too.

GR40

I do have a subframe and yes the cracks are at the front legs, but its the third time it gave in at that same area.

And the price is unbeatable...

Alex, a mate wanted to scrap a capri green g40. He was ready for paint but he didn't finished the project due to lack of money. I talked with him a couple of months ago and i have no idea what has done since. Call me for further details
