hi guys,
im currently doing a g40 conversion and i was wondering if there's anything apart from a service,
and a charger rebuild that i can buy/do to improve reliability like anything people would normally miss?

cheers guys,
chris

The fuel system would probably benefit from some work too. The tank and in-line pump may be worth renewing and the injectors cleaned. For injector cleaning I would recommend PPP (http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1480.0.html) - very good service and competitively priced.
If you plan to rag it a lot perhaps consider an oil cooler? Some people run a stand-alone oil feed just for the charger too.
A set of in-car gauges for things like oil pressure and temperature will let you keep an eye on things. Wideband lambda while expensive, imo are very useful too.

If you are looking for a reliable daily driver i'd recommend the following:

Cam belt & water pump.

If you're not servicing the charger at least change the internal belt.

Include leads and dizzy arm & cap in your service and inspect the plugs.

Check the colour of your coolant and if a dirty brown colour change it for g11 coolant.

Check the rear wheel bearings as these often breakdown, especially if you have wide wheels on. and if you have the rear drum off change the brake cylinder (inexpensive) and bleed some fresh fluid through. Replace the shoes if nesisary.

use G12+ coolant. can you even buy g11 any more?

What plugs did you use?

You should change oil n filter every 3k.

Its worth getting the injectors checked n cleaned :-)

Boris

Where can I pick up G12++ other than (I presume) vw?

PeteG40

gsf sell it (or used to)

Distributor cap and rotor arm since you've done the leads and plugs. Can of switch cleaner and give your electrics a wash.
