Hey guys... dropped a G in my little blue beast a few weeks back and been busy sorting lots of bits brakes/zorst/handling etc.. any way it is hunting on idle when warm and also when I blip the throttle at idle it is slower than I would expect to return to its idle point... also worth noting that when the car is hunting at idle I can blip the throttle very very lightly and it will usually settle to smooth idle...

I cleaned out the ISV at the wekend with carb cleaner and this has made no real difference...

My thoughts are either a slight vac leak/poor seal on the TB or timing... I just wondered if anyone could confirm what these symptoms are most characteristic of?

I would say that the blue temp sens is not likely to be at fault as there is a clear change in idle once warm...

Any advice welcomed! Work is starting on my other G40 shortly so will get build threads up for both soon...

is the ignition timing definitely correct?

G40 AD

no - its not definitely right just as it was in the previous car and it runs very similar to the way my black G ran  prior to timing up when I got my head back from the engineers and he'd marked both timing marks on the dizzy... was very impressed with that!

Only prob being the timing marker for the bottom pulley has been bent at somepoint so not happy to time off that... guess we could time it off the top pulley... I think the timing marker for the bottom pulleys are G specific arent they? can they still be obtained from vw?

the metal timing pointer?  can't you just straighten it out?  VW don't sell them any more, they will just sell an inner timing belt cover with a plastic pointer on it.

I wouldn't bother trying anything else until you know the timing is spot on as it's essential for a good idle

Cool - Will do so this weekend... I was concerned that I would not be able to get it accurate with just straightening it out? it is just bent back a little so that it touches the plastic casing slightly... its just difficult to see exactly where it should sit... will check out my other G...

Need to run the vagcom on it too to clear any faults as not run one since fitting the engine...

cheers for the help hayesey
