Just a quicky, what are the G40's like for emissions if the cat is removed. Do they usually pass or will i have to keep re-fitting it when the mot comes round, as i really cant be bothered.

Im on an L reg so i cant remember what the year is when they dont have to carry out emissions test on your car for the MOT.

Cheers

strictly k-reg onwards. some k reg get away with tester discretion, but  L reg you'll need a cat

It's not really down to discretion anymore, it'll get tested to whatever comes up on the testing machine, it's all computerised now.  Of course, if you have a friendly tester then there are ways round it.

Not quite true Hayesey, last year when I took mine for an MOT (on an L) the tester put it through on a non cat test because there was a sticker missing from the engine bay. Unfortunately the car wouldnt go on his ramps so he couldnt complete the test and so I had to take it somewhere else and it required a cat.

g40s often come up with a 90-94 car.... technically should go on build date... so your 1994 g can be built in 1990

My K reg was registered on the 1st sept 92 and mine goes through the non cat test.

I just wondered what the engines were like for emissions, As i have a MK4 supra 3.0L tt which is supposed to have two cats in the exhaust i have a 2.5" exhaust from the turbo manifold back and suprisingly it passed it emmisions test so i just wondered what the G's were like

Its a conversion so they can't identify the engine so they put it through on a non cat test, if the car has the original engine in then they run what ever test comes up on theomputer for that car.

The Hayes is right, its all linked data with DVLA & VOSA.

Law is if car is registered original 1st August 1992 (k-reg) onwards, then it must have a cat test. Conversions are grey areas still though, but if VOSA themselves get involved, they can get manufacturers emissions data for engine codes!

sam's car (k reg) never has a cat test from what i remember

Friendly MOT tester then. My old blue G40 was an August 1992, sometimes it had the cat test.....sometimes it didn't ;)

I don't think it's as clear cut as just K-reg onwards anymore, I'm fairly sure most (all?) G40s come up as not needing cat tests.

If you want an actual answer of what your MOT tester will do then phone him up and ask.

My mates L reg g40 failed its last test because of no cat.... then we went back and showed him the non-cat test that he had done on it last year. He passed it after that! haha!
