Swapping gear box parts?

Hi all
Going to start my G40 rebuild soon, I bought it knowing that 2nd gear had a bad crunch either going up or down the box, I thought yeh fair enough its just a syncro ring, problem being now that I can't seem to find a spare one to buy.. Now i have a spare 1.0l gearbox and it goes through the gears lovely, Can I just take the syncro ring out of the 1.0l box and put it in the G40 box? Does anyone know if they're the same or is the G40 item alot stronger?
Plan B, does anyone know a supplier who can get hold of a new 2nd gear syncro so I can rebuild my box? Failing that has anyone got a spare G40 gearbox they want rid of or got any parts laying around?

Don't use secondhand parts, it's a false economy! VW will sell you the part.

I dont think syncro rings are expensive new but a g40 one is just the same as any other 085 gearbox one.
