Hay all iv got myself a polo g40 6n  but there is one thing I need to sort out....

When driving at a constant speed or setting off it splutters and jolts not very often but I'd like to sort this out ASAP any idears??? it only dose it once iv ran on boost but i if i dont run it on boost from starting it up is dosent do it so i no its not the ignition or timing.... Been told I need an Ecu chip is this correct??

It's running an EATON M45 and a front mout intercooler and I think that's all...

Also is there anywhere that stockes a toothed belt kit for the eaton charger/ G40 set up??

Thanks

Did sam tell you if it was a standard chip or a different one do you know?
First place I would look is engine sensors - look for lambda, blue temp ect

dani1326

I'm sure he said all it needs is an Ecu chip to cure it so im assuming its a standard chip.... Not sure if I can but could I put it on VAGCOM as it's an older Ecu???

How do I check all the sensors??

Give that a good read mate - Shame its running a standard chip; you know what boost its running? Just a re-map would really get you a shed of power if its more than the standard 0.6 /0.7 bar of boost!

It's running and holding 11psi until belt slip..... im just going to buy all new sensors.... what sensors will i need>?

Andy

What's the full engine spec (inc. injector size)?
What chip are you currently using?
What spark plugs are you using?

Blue temp - always VW
lambda

try those for now - but i reckon its the map.
Any, from what I know its a totally standard engine, standard injectors, should have standard plugs <- dont know
and what i think from what danni is saying it has a standard map - hardly ideal for an eaton setup!

yeh standard apart from the eaton.... what would be the best injectors, plugs and camshaft ?? im going to get jabba to do a costtom map on her once iv got and fitted all the parts

Andy

PSD did some 'Eaton' spec camshafts - they were very lairy and had a lot of overlap. They pop up secondhand from time-to-time.

If you're running 11psi then I'd keep the standard injectors and standard camshaft for the time being, and use standard plugs - Bosch W5DP0 or NGK equivalents.

The boost delivery on an Eaton is very different to a G40, so running on a standard G40 map won't be helping things at all. I don't have any Eaton maps on file for standard injectors, and to be honest as most of the Eaton setups knocking around are different to one another I'd suggest a full remap as you're planning is the best bet. Jabba will be able to do you a dyno-remap I'm sure, but we (Polo-PP) also offer G40 remapping too.

thanks for the advice.... iv got chance to get hold of a full PSD toothed belt kit and a PSD ecu chip would that chip be ok without the camshaft?

Andy

It depends what spec the chip is for...

There are some PSD Eaton chips out there for cars with a bigger MAP sensor (to run over 15psi of boost), some for 330cc injectors, some for 250cc injectors, some for the Eaton spec cam, some for standard cam etc. etc. So I'd ask the seller about the chip!

Also find out what pulley sizes the PSD kit comes with - they did some smaller pulley'd versions that'll kick out over 15psi of boost.

good idear you told me to do that.... here is his reply......

::::There isn't a charger pulley, just the alternator and crank pulley, I do have the a charger pulley but it is for the g40 charger so would not fit the Eaton.

The low boost chip is for a psd camshaft, green injectors, 51mm throttle body not sure about the map sensor but I will dig the chips out tomorrow and let you know the full spec.::::

and that would of been a waist of over £300 i owe you one buddy

PeteG40

from what i recall the eaton shaft has to be taken off and a key way machined into it... then a custom toothed pulley made for them.

they are probably unlikely to turn up second hand.  As i recall PSD only made 9 eaton kits.

hayesey

yes the standard pulley on an eaton is pressed on so some fettling is required to make a nice removable pulley fit.

lance

wonder if they made a toothed belt kit for the mini?
