Im looking into sourcing parts for my G40 conversion.

Since i bought my polo i have never been to happy with the brakes, are the G40 discs and calipers a direct swap for the 1.3 L reg ones or would they not fit, or are there any other brakes that are recomended.

Also im looking into the suspention side of things. I would like to go lower, but im after keeping the stock look of the car. Is there anything i could do to stiffen it up a bit to improve the handling. I was looking into getting the G40 steel rims as they look simular to the steelies i have at the moment, so they should help somewhat.

you can put passat master cylinder on and g40 or golf gti brakes on
g40 suspention is stiffer and lower than standard polo suspention also you can get strut brace and subframes at a cost
g40 dont come with steels they come with alloys bbs ra(gt come with steeels)

so is this wheel for a GT and not a G40, i presume the bolt pattern is the same.

chris2911

5.5j steel wheels with wheel trims on polo gt
5.5j alloy wheels  bbs ra on polo g40

g40 if i recall correctly runs 175-60-13 tyres

Im just after getting a bit more rubber on the floor, the ones that ere on it now lock up for fun when its wet and im getting a bit adventureous, so any addition to that would be great.

Suspention wise is the G40 suspension easy to source or am i going to be searching for a while.

chris2911

not really looked out for it but there yellow beilsten shockers
just look out for breakers in the for sale section

Are the struts on the G's attached to the hub like on mine, if so when you upgrade your suspension do the hubs come with the stuts as a job lot or are they completley different, Pics may help

Yeah, but replacement shocks are inserts.

G40 suspension is 20mm lower and 20% stiffer than stock polo.

Going coilovers would mean your old ones are taken in exchange, as manufactured coilovers, i.e. FK, KW etc are just converted polo hubs with their specific inserts and thread conversion, etc.  Obviously race stuff is differently valved, etc.

Get a lower strut brace or go the whole hog and get a full subframe.  Upper strut brace are next to pointless on a polo.

gavin.starr

the full subframe was on the cards anyway, im just thinking about lowering it a bit to improve the handling slightly but would it really be worth it.

If your using stock Polo CL suspension, your next trip will into a tree with the G40! :o ;D

At least stick G40 suspension on it if nothing else.

gavin.starr

right well i will have to start searching, as i dont really want to be spending a hell of a lot on suspention.
