New problem! Help please

Well I was out late yesterday and it started raining heavily so I had to get back home! I jumped in to the car and took the main street back but as I noticed too late it had flooded! I couldn't back up so I decided to go through the little pod (as did others)! I went slowly and managed to get out of it with no problem, or so I though! I took the car to get to work this morning and although it drives, when I try to accelerate hard it cuts out making a noise like a missing cylinder! Everything on top of the engine is bone dry! so my suspicions fall to the lower wiring Like the external pump! Anyone can help? I am at work right now and wouldn't like to get towed back home! I can still drive it at low speeds but its 33klm back so I really don want to do that!

Is the battery light on the clocks lit or randomly flashing? I know when my alternator gets wet the  car runs like a bag of shit until it's dried out again and the battery light is off. Liberal dose of WD40 can accelerate the fix.

I have a plastic water shield witch I made myself under the alternator, so I doubt its that! it did flash when I went through but the belt dried out when I came out, I am familiar with that problem!  I checked the distributor and it's dry both on the outside and the inside!

I think its the external fuel pump! Either it went bad when I went through the "lake" or there is a hole on the solenoids (that's just me being optimistic)! Damn it! How much, a new pump will lighten my pockets!?

they're not cheap!  Something like £100-£150 in the UK.

Oh! Then lets hope it's something cheaper that has gone wrong!  Don't you just love them when they break down?

the problem just went away!  at least for now! I ll check the wiring for exposed cables that could short out especially around the pump area and will be doing some isolation this weekend! thanks for the help!
