Re-spray or Re-shell

Basically the shell of my G is far from immaculate, there is lacquer peel on the roof and bonnet. Numerous dents and pings on most of the panels and the boot has been poorly resprayed by the previous owner.

The question is is it worthwhile respraying; a lot of work is going to have to be done in order for it to be worth doing, or re-shell it. I love the colour (windsor blue) and it is the non-sunroof version which I understand are rare? but the amount of money it would cost and the amount I've already spent on the car are seriously affecting the decision.

As it stands its probably not worth a massive amount, although a relatively low mileage engine (100K) and an original G the bad points on the shell let it down. Either way whatever I do it won't be done soon I was just gaging opinion to see what you guys think.

Cheers, Danny

get it re-sprayed.  After that it'll always be better condition (unless you get a rubbish respray done) than buying any other shell.  mk3 polos are all 16-20 years old now so you'll not find one that is perfect unless it's already had all the work done and then it's unlikely to be cheap or easy to find.

i concur with the hayes!  unless you get a minter - which will cost £1k+ anyway

Cheers guys, i was leaning in that direction i think. Spookey that shell would be ideal but i'm not in a position to buy unfortunately atm, and i don't know if i'm keen on the smoothed gutters, there one of my favorite bits of the polo lol!

i would go for the spray job, at least you are keeping the original G body

What grayG40 said. Keep it on the original numbers.

I would go with respraying your original one too, you are going to end up doing the same to any other shell anyway so you might as well keep the one you know.
