oil recomendations

All the time i have had my 4TY (12 years) i have used qauntum gold and then when it rolled round 100k qauntum silver,but now i am over in canada i wont be able to get this.There is plenty of oil to choose from for instance 4 litres of castrol gtx for £5 ,or castrol edge for £12..What oil does everybody else use??any recomendations.

what's the climate like over there though?  might need something thinner for cold weather than 10w/40.  I'd try and have a read on some VW forums over there and see what people use in the similar golf engines, perhaps g60s if there are any.
