Standalone oil supply

Im in two minds about getting the supply.

I did have one but sold it cause i was told you gotta be carefull with them but then when i spoke to someone else they said it should be ok and cant see a reason not to have it.

What does anyone on here think?

There are two main reasons to fit a standalone oil system.
Firstly, the engine oil that the charger normally relies upon is subject to wide changes in temperature. This obviously isn't ideal, especially in modified engines which typically rev higher more often. Coupled with a smaller pulley and the charger is spinning much higher than intended.
Secondly, you can use a thinner, more suitable oil specifically for the charger.
Win win as far as I can see.
The only potential problem is the oil pump failing in service. You could fit a light on the dash to come on in the event of a failure if you wanted? In reality though, how often does the electric fuel pump fail whilst you are driving along?
Personally, I reckon it'd be a good investment.

But in this application you'll be using a fuel pump to pump oil, this will surely affect the durability of the pump? Perhaps for an occasional use track or drag car you can live with the reduced life.

Best bet then is to get a decent pump thats for oil if there's one.

Remember, the oil used in standalone oil systems is far thinner than engine oil. Pump should be fine, if not fit a warning lamp like I said.

Even machine oil is far thicker than petrol...

If you want to do it properly, our charger run in rig has a Mocal Electric Oil Pump- they are £180 though.

As you say you can get specific electric oil pumps but they are very expensive new. I wonder if there is anything available fitted to a modern car that could be utilised?

Oh i will have a look. Would rather spend the money and have a better pump.

cheapest pumps i have found are all around £150 for an 12v oil pump or £50 for a facet pump with some cheap thin oil

Facet 60107N pump; pumps diesel, bio diesel, petrol at 7-19 psi. £30.  Joe Gibbs XP0 oil, like water and about £12/litre. I've not put a lot of miles in with it yet, but it all looks OK so far.
