Is it just me or do people seem to be asking g40 prices for there fecking polo GT's

when i first got in to polo's you could pick a decent polo GT for around £300-500 or modified maybe £700-800 and a real spanking tidy GT for about a £1000 but now there fetching stupid money! and G40's are still fetching the same value!

i keep seeing polo GTs with a few mods going for over £1500 and the shell condition is not even great!!!

are people mad!

what's other peoples opinions on this?

MartinB

a 1.0 litre breadvan went for £700 the same night as a standard G40 went for £1k on ebay. Madness!

people on club polo certainly seem to be asking for stupid money for GTs and other non-g40 polos.  I cant see why anyone would pay £1000+ for a GT unless it was in showroom condition.  Couple of hundred more gets you a g40!

I got my gt for 350, body work is in mint conition but it needs a respary as the lad before me had bare metaled it and rollered it grey! Really gutted as it was a mint black gt!!

Seems a may have picked up a bit of a bargin as it has a full stamped service book too :D

I wouldn't even pay 500 quid for a gt.  75 bhp wouldnt pull your foreskin back so what's the point.  That's just my opinion I know people say they're good little runners etc etc but not for me.

haha brilliant  ;D

I wouldn't pay more than £500 either unless it was an exceptionally good condition shell.

I just can't understand these pubescent kids.  There's someone on CP selling a gt for around 1500-1800 quid.  It's not an original GT it used to be every other polo other than a g40, its had a respray and been through as many hands as jordans tits.  I don't blame the sellers, everyone wants to get the most they can don't they.  It's the bloody buyers?! It makes no sense..'hmmm 75bhp gt for nearly 2k or a min of 113bhp g40 for 1500? hmmm let me think that one through' :-\  the onlybenefit of a gt over a gt for me is cheaper insurance...

Hold onto your g40's boys..

I guess mk3 polos are sort of making the transition from an crappy old car to a cool little retro runabout.

So most people arent going to want the relatively high maintainence G40 model with the poor economy that requires specialist treatment when you can have a nippy little sports model thats absolutely bomb proof.

I know the G40 is the collectable model but I think most people buying GT's are after a retro car that it practical, rather than buying them because they think they are rare or fast.

cheddarcheese

thats ball shit i would say a g40 is no more high maintenance than a GT and i have had 4 polo gt's all with worse fuel economy than my G40's.

Lol @ Tom

No idea why GTs are fetching such a premium- I paid £1250 for mine 6 years ago... probably worth about £12.50 at the moment though  ;D

GT are fun little cars, but £1500 is taking the piss, I picked up a Ph2 Clio 172 for that!!!

i picked up my first G40 for £700 nearly 10 years ago, (tho it wasn't what you would call in full working order) it cos me another £1200 to put right.
i'd say a tidy 1.0-1.3 standard coupe is worth around £300-£350, a tidy GT worth between £500-£700 and G40 from £1200 to £1750 depending on condition. highly modified G40's are worth more but thats only my personal opinion. i'd say if you found a totally standard G40, low mileage and in museum condition then your talkin serious money.
only problem is with any pricing from the 1.0 to the G40 is the realistic book price as that says there worth peanuts.
