Hi I'm a noob so bare with me :| and English is only my second language (I'm danish) so problems there might occur aswell.

My g40 which I have had for 2 years, has gotten a problem staying "on" when idling.

Happened after I changed the oil and plugs (changed plugs from bosch w4cs silver something to new w5dtc).

I had the "ladeluft gekühlt" platicpipe off to reach one of the plugs (noob-I-am dosen't know which cylindernumber...)

when I went for my test run afterwards, the car ran ok at first, then when warm (I guess) it died when I rolled towards an intersection.
Has run uneven since when warmish and won't stay alive  idle-ling...

I have located one hose which is bent.
It's NOT the hose which comes from under the Ladeluft gekühlt Pipe, (14mm  hose inside diameter) but  the one that looks likes it comes from/continues this and takes a bend towards the back of the engine (sorry I have no words for the part which it ends into, but they are alu studpipes if that makes sense ?)

My dad said over the phone that my problem soundet either electrical or false air sucked into the system...
I don't have a spare hose of correct type, but am trying to fit something.

Do you guys have any hints / or solutions ?
What does the bend hose do normally ?

would new plugs mean something here ? - had them look up in ETKA at the local VW OEM parts store/dealership and they got me those plugs.

Please help

all understood!

first things i would check, get the car running (for 2minutes or so), and then unplug the BLUE temp sender, if this is giving bad readings, it would cause the uneven idle when warm.

If this does not fix it, try the same process, but unplug the Lambda Plug (this is a 4 pin connection, next to the throttlebody, it goes to the cat)

Both these sensors are known for causing uneven idle, only when the car is warm, do they start to work.

Try that first and see!

OK thank you!

I'll try it out tomorrow.

by the way, my car is from 1988 so it is without a catalyst...

I've had a problem with one of the sensors in the thermostat housing earlier - a broken wire. It was the one one the left (cars left, seen from drivers position) - made the car run rich and sort of made it drown when pushing the gas/throttle when engine was  in business temperature....

One of my friends just texted me - saying I might have broken the plug-cables.
might be - they are old I guess...

the car is running again - after i reinstalled the old plugs! bosch (w4cs)

the new bosch w5dtc I had in looked alike at inspection the 4 of them...
though the doubt has set in - didn't I get them in all the way - though the washers look like they have tighten down.

Troblem Solved!!!

in short: changed my new Bosch W4CS plugs electrode gap from 0.6mm to 0.8ish mm and I'm flying again.

all info in short:
I  bought new w5dtc's (with 3 eletrodes) and the car ran bad. - like a kangaroo, cutting off a cyl,
changed back to old w4cs plugs and car ran "normal"
bought new w4cs plugs - car ran bad as with w5dtc's (DTC= Danish touringcar championship thats why I remember the name of the plugs- dont ask why i can remember We4CounterStrike - sad sad very sad)
Then I was really sad.
was told to check the electrodes gap and change it to 0.9 later 0.7 by someone else so ended up with 0.8mm
result: car is running somewhat smoother than "normal".

Merry X-mas and sorry if I seem to happy.
(I'm waiting for next problem).

Good news, that you've got it running smooth!! :)

Can you not get W5DPOs in Denmark then?   Thats what we all run on our UK G40s.
