Hi all, i have in my possesion a little 1993 non g40 (unfortunately) but am slowly doin her up, my next project is suspension and wheels, i've just bought a full set and am hopefully going to tackle it soon.
my question is = is it a nasty job??? i've got spring compressors etc etc,
also want to uprade the brakes, what does everyone suggest? are there any others that fit, what are the best or good inexpensive ones?
at a later date i'd like to convert mine from a carb to a supercharger, what would i need? am i right in asumeing head and everything else like, wiring loom, etc etc?

hi mate
the suspension isnt a bad job if your ok with a socket set, should take a few hours if you take your time.
Brakes off a G40 are ok 239mm vented but better ones are 256mm off mk2 golf gti (16v i think) with audi 80 coupe caliper carriers although these are a bit extreme for a non G40 but wouldnt worry about having bigger brakes than needed. (better too big than too small)
As for the supercharger think you'd be best looking for a full engine as theres a lot of different parts ie. pistons, wiring loom, ecu, intercooler & pipework, various sensors...list goes on and on
good luck though

Just thought, have a look on club polo theres a list of GT & G40 specific parts that may help.

cheers swiftg40, much appreciated, what about the front top mounts? is it wise to replace them in the process??

Also what about the rear drums?? can these be upgraded?
I'm asking cos i'm a great believer in modifyin cars in a particular way, i.e brakes suspension before engine, there is no point in gettin more h.p. then not being able to go round corners or stop haha ::)

cheers for the engine advice i gathered that would be the case, all i have to do now is find a good cheap engine!!!! mmmmm might take a while hahaha ;D

The front top mounts depends on how worn yours are, not sure how much they are but if there only cheap i'd replace them as you'll only have to take the suspension back off if you do need to change them.
You can upgrade the rear drums to discs i got mine off a 95' passat 2.0 GL, but mk2 golf gti are the same (239mm solid discs) you need the stub axles, calipers, discs, pads, wheel bearings, and you'll have to change or adjust the handbrake cable as its not long enough and adjust the bias valve so you dont lock up the rears.
i havent fitted mine yet though and dont feel the need to as it stops very well with the 256mm drilled fronts, hope that helps

rear drums are fine, just strip them down, clean them up, replace anything that's worn out and grease moving bits (obviously not friction parts!) and put back together.  Putting discs on doesn't really do much other than look nicer.  Concentrate your efforts (and money) on the front brakes.

brilliant stuff, so i need?
audi 80 (1985) caliper carriers
mk2 callipers and disks?
ther are also vaxhall parts i can use? but i dont think i'll go down that route
