My G40 has been idling lumpy for ages and not holding revs etc etc.  Tried everything, I think there was a post on here where a few ppl had the same problem?

Anyways fiiiiiiiiiiinally took it to my friend to have a look and it's top end BOOOOO.  Running low on compression and something about a leak where the exhaust is (I'm not really technical enough).  Head being sent off to be skimmed etc so hoping it will come back like new.

I've managed to put off getting a new charger for a couple of years now but I guess now it's off now is the time.  Quite excited  :D

Is there anything else I should get done while I'm there?  It's had full service, new fuel tank, new exhaust ermmmm can't think what else.

Only thing this won't fix is that the stupid stereo runs the battery down so it's like owning an electric car - you gotta charge it up everytime you want to use it!!!

if the stereo is running it down, it sounds like a poor battery or a poor alternator - or a wiring fault to me.

I think it's a wiring fault as it was ok before the new stereo went in.  It just must be drawing power all the time.

Thanks Rae.  You would think that my stereo fitter would know this!! lol

Must get it sorted so I can actually drive the car without having to charge it over night.

It's had a new battery so that is ok.  Yes I did think about d/c the battery. My stereo is weird and to get to the preset radio stations takes ages (don't ask it's a weird Alpine one!)

I'm sure mine had a yellow wire in it, well it certianly comes on and off with the key anyway. The problem with them is that for some reason VW's red and yellow wire are the opposite way round to every other manufacturer. If you look at new stereo looms you can swap the red and yellow wires round to suit it must be to get around this problem, if yours is new they just might need swapping round. Does it keep all the radio presets etc when you turn off the car?
