I've installed a thermostat oil cooler kit and i measured the oil presure with a mechanical presure gauge...
I read: 1000rpm-1bar
          2000rpm-2bar
          3000rpm-3bar
          4000rpm-3bar
          5000rpm-3.2bar
          6000rpm-3.2bar
The oil pressure after 3000rpm stays steady...
I bolted the gauge into the left oil presure plug (that with the blue wire)
Also, the engine was warmed well and i used 10-40w oil...
People with oil coolers please reply my topic so i can compare mine...
Thank you for you time, Alex...

i havent got an oil cooler fitted but measured the oil pressure at idle the other day and it was 5 bar @ 1000rpm

I suppose that you engine was cold Chris?

My oil pressure will hit 9 bar when cold at 4000 revs. When its warm it maxes out at around 5 and at tickover it never really drops between 1.8 bar, even after a good rag. Its got 5/40 synthetic in it but it was the same when it used to have 10/40 mineral. It has only done 50k with full VW service history though!

i think my oil was cold tbh

Robin

you need to remember that oil pressure varies ALOT with temperature.

Yep. My engine is currently running warmer than normal at the moment, but at idle oil pressure is about 1.7 bar and after a good workout it drops to about 1.3 bar at idle.
