About £2000

I would like to go the turbo route but dont want to turbo a g40 and have been told that 1.8 20v T isnt possible

It's possible. VW Lupo hv less space nd my friend placed V6 Seat Cupra engine in it....

If y. want to find more just put in Google: Lupo W12. So don't wory If he managed to place v6 than y. won't hv any trouble with 1.8t - engine is smaller  ;D
