Hi there,

I've been interested in G40's. Being 17 I expected really expensive insurance quotes, I've taken the number plate from a car I was emailed pictures from, and tried others yet it says £1,660, fully comp. Now that's pretty cheap for my age, but i was under the impression the insurance was very expensive for G40's?
"Vehicle - VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.3 (90-94) CL COUPE 1272cc 3DR" is what it says.

Thanks,
JimOw

I used 3 of the ones from the For Sale section, Does this mean it's not an actual G40 or that the site just isn't picking the correct info up?

hayesey

probably means a g40 just isn't in the insurance company's database?  You'll need to ring them up I reckon but going off the quote of £1660 for a 1.3CL I'd make sure you are sat down when you ring  :'(

17....and a g40

oh dear lol

look at 3k for a quote :)

JimOw

haha :p  thanks for the replies everyone.
maybe i'll think about other cars

hayesey

a GT might be an idea, should be a fair bit cheaper on the insurance and are good fun cars.

I would say ring Brentacre, Adrian Flux or A-Plan.

G40 insurance isn't excessive for what you get ;) but I think being 17 you may stuggle.  Think I paid £1,600 for my first Mk1 Golf when I was 17!
I had my first G40 when I was 19 and I think the insurance was around £1,200.

I don't think Brentacre insure people under 19.

I rung brentacre for an insurance quote after being told they were pretty good, ended up being quoted something like £1600ish third party, fire n theft which is what i expected due to being 20 with 6 points for no insurance and 2 years NCB,

I'd suggest ringing Adrian Flux they quoted me £686 third party, fire n theft which i very quickly accepted  :) as everybody elses quotes were like £2k plus!!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

José, was this on a G40 or GT?

The quotes for GT's at the moment aren't bad, I'll keep searching - Thanks :)

tdh-syorks

i remember the insurance on my first G40 was £2300, that was when i was 18

Yes mate G40 is what it says on my insurance certificate, i triple checked all the info i gave them cz i could'nt believe it,
Its also genuine G40 which is also on the logbook etc etc, thats also declared lowered.

But for a first car a GT is probably your best bet if your 17

Ye well the good thing is my parents don't want me having just a 1.3 (result;)) as where I live is purely hills.
So a 1.3gt would suite well if i add them both as named drivers.

Thanks everyone :)
