Title: Steering Racks - New or Refresh?
Post by: Matty! on November 29, 2018, 01:41:51 am
Boys and Gals

Whilst the engine is out I want to fully refresh the steering whilst its easily accessible.

Now I have found some here but only seem to be for left hookers
https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/oen/867419065

Two questions:
Does anyone know if we can get hold of right hand drive ones new?

Or

Can our steering racks be rebuilt easily enough?I.E standard bearings or bushes or even buy a lefty rack and swap 90% of the bits over or is it as simple as just flipping the rack over?

Thanks
Matty

I just re-greased mine. I have never seen or heard of one wearing out? But I may be wrong? Is yours noisey? There isn’t a lot to the racks themselfs so not really a lot of serviceable parts. If it’s still working fine just re-grease it and clean it up.

Im sure most the parts out a LHD rack can be swapped but it would be a waste of money to buy a New LHD rack just you used the new bearing and/or bushes that you may damage by removing
