The scanned in pages are pretty bad quality (a combination of me rushing and my manual being quite oily!) but hopefully you can make them out.  It's about an 084 box but most stuff still applies.

Alright chaps,

Just opened an ATV box I am hoping to set right and put into the G. Picture of the current differential. Not looking too healthy.

What's the deal with differentials? Would it be worth putting an lsd in? Only used as a daily!

Cheers

Just replace the planet gear in the diff if thats all thats worn? Shaft and four cogs set same as other gear boxes.

In fact I've got all those bits in a box if you need any? Just remove two of the diff crown wheel nuts and bolts to slide that shaft out.

Also slight marking to the inside of the diff housing. But shouldn't be a problem

Holy penis!! when you said "have you seen my diff" thought you meant a bit of wear lol!
what would cause that amount of damage?
you can get new planetary gears off ebay remember looking at them for mine, were around £80, though paul doesnt trust ebay :P so not sure what quality is like

Could the damage have come from snapping a cv?

I guess it could do since when that happens that side will very suddenly get all the power sent to it and spin quickly while the speed of the other side doesn't change.

I'd not bother paying £80, these parts are the same in any 085 gearbox (and likely 084 too I reckon).  Should be easy to find spares.  Nick has offered some, I think I threw all mine away a while ago since I've not used a standard diff for some time now!

Yeah i have taken Nick up on his offer. Just spoke to the local vw delaership and he quoted 165+vat for the planetary set.

Bought a new plastic cage for £2.50 from them
