which pulleys???
« on: March 12, 2013, 03:42:09 pm »
which pulleys are most suitable to run the alternator with turbo conversion?

The reason I ask is because i'm changing from "Eaton to Turbo", therefore my pulleys are PSD, HTD.

Should I source standard G40 pulleys or  standard mk3 pulleys, as i will need to set the ignition timing and also tension the belt?

thanks guys

you need non-g40 pulleys. I also use a non-g40 alternator so I have the proper adjuster.  I believe that you can adapt the g40 alternator though.

OK grand, I shall source some non-G40 pulleys. I will try and fit a semi tight belt, as i may have a little adjustment on the lower bracket, however if this is unsuccessful looks like i will be modifying the alternator.

thanks.....

I run a G40 alternator and it tensions fine although i did modify afew bits to make sure the belt is nice and tight.

well folks,

on the weekend I managed to get the hold of some standard mk3 pulleys, part no. 030105255E which is listed for HZ,NZ,2G,3F, AAU,AAV,ACM

however the crank pulley is very close to the ARB bracket, it does clear, but i feel the pulley might buff against it under heavy braking, cornering ect..

would it be worth buying/trying 056105255??? which is listed as HZ,NZ,2G,3F, AAU, as i remember reading somewhere that one pulley is smaller/larger or early/late ect. also should note that there are two v-belt sizes listed hence the reason for pulley sizes.

What i did in relation to the belt was once the pulleys were fitted, i measured the length of belt needed by running a length of string round the pulleys with the alternator set slightly off minimum, measured the string and then grabbed a belt from halfords with the same or very slightly bigger as the adjustment would take up the extra.
