eaton fitted now radiator does not fit
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:42:49 pm »
Hello, i am david 25 years old from holland.
I have a 93 polo g40 with an eaton blower.
I completly rebuild my motor and fitted an eaton on it, and when i had put it back in the car the troubles began.
I found out that my stock radiator does not fit anymore.
It is a bit too high because the eaton can hit it.
Wich radiator have you fitted to solve this problem?

I hope you can help me.

Greetings david

you'll have to be patient.  There's not many people at all doing eaton conversions.

Would moving the position of the standard radiator not be easier than fitting something else?

I tried almost everything.
Tomorrow i will strip the radiator from his fan housing.
And then i am going to puzzle again.

A member from our dutch polo forum said i had too look here beacause there are more guys with eaton conversions in england.
He was proberbly wrong.
Non the less i hope you can still help me.

i fitted mine by lowering the radiator on a custom made brace- not on the original.
a few others have found a solution by tilting the radiator forward to create space or using a slimline fan like pacet or kenlow.

here was my old setup - radiator is out of sight lower down

i have the eaton conversion not done by me, was on the car when i bought it, and the radiator used looks to be a slimmer one with a really slimline radiator on it. but it was held on with tie wraps which im trying to rectify now :/ seems to be a bit of a ballache if im honest :/

I had a similar problem with you when I fitted my eaton! The way I solved it was I cut and extented the hoses and moved the radiator a bit further front, just enough to clear the charger, really easy to do!

Mine was moved slightly further forward, almost sat touching the intercooler.

Very possible to do with a standard rad, just abit of an arse!

Could anyone post some pictures of the brackets that they used.
I think they are part of the problem, that the charger is to far away from the engine.
