1.6 g40
« on: November 26, 2012, 05:10:55 pm »
So after my bottom end decided to crap its pants just before i put it away after winter (still runs fine just god dam smokey) ive been weighing up my options I was thinking of just g40n 1.6 small block and was looking to see if it had been done or atempted?ive done quite a bit of research and cant find unsolveable problems with doing it to a pre 94 abu 1.6 8v as it uses the same gear box pattern and shares the same inlet stud pattern. it will need pistons and rods and a bit of internal and it will stand a bit taller to allow for the cylinder head bit it will fit according to my measurements. im i   missing somthing? any info would be greatly appreciated Cheers will ; )

The stock rods are the weak point on the 1.6's but still ok for small boostage on the ABU oem CR. Another way to utilise a 1.6 engine for forced induction rather than custom forged bits, is tweeking G60 con rods to fit. Mclovin in his clubpolo build thread is going this way for his budget 16v charged.

Iirc the 1.6 8v rods are 144mm whereas the G60 rods are 136mm so would be far too short for the 8v. 20vt rods are 144mm tho so should work with some machining and rebushing
