If you need a replacement standard intercooler for a Mk3 G40, then after much research, and having just picked one up for my car, I can tell you that you can still buy what appears to be the original part from NRF.
VW Part Number is 871145805C
NRF part number is 30017
The one I have just fitted appears to be exactly the same as the original part. Plastic parts are stamped Langerer & Reich with their part number as the original, and it is date stamped 2009. The only difference appears to be that they have removed the VW logo! It fitted perfectly.
The original manufacterer (Langerer & Reich) was taken over by Modine, and Modine took over NRF in the 90s, so I was hopeful this might be the original source.
It cost £190. Last price VW have was over £300, and they stopped selling them in 2009....
So I suspect this is the remaining stock at the original supplier.
They had 30 left at NRF in Holland when I got mine (29 now).
