Quoteoil pumps worn and getting ready as the pressure is much higher cold

interesting.  How come you think the pump is worn?  You will get much higher pressure when it's cold as the oil is much thicker then.  Normally get 100psi when it's first started from cold (which is pretty much where the pressure relief valve opens up).  As long as it's not going much less than 15psi when it's hot then I don't think it's a cause for concern.

I'm amazed this hasn't sold!  Nice black G40 with less than 100k on the clock for £2k, pretty rare beast these days. I think I'd hold out for the money!  Where else have you advertised it?

Here retro rides and e38 so far. Not made that much effort to sell it I guess but I appears nobody has money at the minute.

I was under the impression the pumps on this age vw are the geared type so took a guess the teeth are letting the oil slip back when it's thinner. I'd like to swap the pump for the sake of 50 odd quid it but it's spare money I haven't got at the minute.

the pump is a chain driven rotor, I guess it could be described as a gear type.  But it is normal and expected for the pressure to be a lot lower when the oil is hot and thinner.  Even a brand new pump will do this.  A new pump will be more like £100 (cheaper ones might be available but it's not a part I'd want to get the cheapest of the cheap of).  Just seems a waste of money I very much doubt it needs replacing at less than 100k.  Chain and chain sprocket wear is usually the first thing on them.

Also I think saying that will hurt your chances of a sale too when it needn't as it's how they are even when brand new.

Try it on clubpolo and pistonheads.com too.

I work as a mechanic and I get parts like that for my own cars at cost so I'm more inclined to phone that supplier first if you get me. That's why the price is that. I know what I'm looking at on the gauge also it's not what I'd consider normal. I'm going to try another gauge/wk sender if I've got one somewhere to confirm it's not that.

By geared type I'm talking about the pump internals with gears forcing the oil through. Il give those a try. Cheers

fair enough, just hope you aren't needlessly scaring off potential buyers.

Ricky

Just trying to be honest mate. I'l get the feeler gauge on the gaps this week. If I get enough for it i'l do the pump, oil and filter.

Practical Classics is listing G's as £4.5k for pristine; £3.5k for well looked after; £2.5k for decent daily runner and less than £1k for shagged out. Mileage less important than condition. Unless the Sheriff's Officers are at the door, you'd be daft to sell at less than £2k.

Ricky

Inclined to agree, Whole host of excuses of why i really need the money but can't get any serious interest.

I maybe interested if the car is still available?
Thanks

I'd love it, but I'd have to sell mine first. Doesn't look like many have sold in any state this year though so I've not even bothered. If you want to do a deal with a grey one then let me know! ;)

This now has an 8p box which is the longest ratio 085 box I believe?  and no more gear issues. Cheers.
