the delorean dream...
« on: July 18, 2012, 01:47:11 pm »
thought i would finally get around to posting on here.
after posting on here talking about my delorean obsession i made the decision to go for it.

picked up a very bare stripped delorean from central america, no engine and a fair few other bits missing, but structurally and chassis wise was great condition

ive decided to do a blog to keep up with the progress, makes it a bit easier...

he woke up one day and thought "if you're gonna build a time machine in to a car, why not do it with some style?".

ok, I'll stop now

Trying to realise a dream like that takes cajones Dan. It'll also take more than a few pesetas, but you have my admiration.

yeah it is very stressful at minute as the mechanic doing the work dropped it a few months ago and left me with the remains of his work to find someone to take it on.

Found a guy who has done alot of vw engine conversions over last 10 years who has taken it on but has said unfortunately most of the work done needs redoing, a right kick in the wallet.

How i find everything these days, ebay.

The idea was always in my head but never had the time or space, i sold my G40 and that freed up a bit of money for it, looked on ebay and found the car with no engine in middle of america.

Importing it was so easy, found a company out there told them where it was, condition, they asked for a phone number and that was that.

Had an invoice through and a date, it cost just under £1500 to get it from central america to portsmouth
baring in mind it needed towing 700 odd miles to the coast in that price.

So it is currently at new mechanic and he is looking over what is best plan of action, engine needs to come out and manifold pipes need adjusting as they are not located correctly, engine mounts need retapping as they have magically got rounded...

Hoping for some progress next week, ordered aload of new bits from DMC in Holland again, it really is weird that new parts are readily available for a car that was made for about a year

had a ford probe in the 90's as a rental and that speedo went up to 85 too but you could go past it and put the needle at the end
