Hello,

I was told by the guy who serviced my charger recently that the cone K&N filter which I have installed will damage the charger because it's not filtering the air as good as a standard paper filter so I should change it immediately. The explanation was that the tiniest particles will not be filtered at all and will enter the charger, causing some damage.

Is this statement true or can I continue to use the K&N filter?

Thanks in advance (for the third time this week)!  :)

If they're new then it shouldn't be too bad - the mistake people make is not servicing them. I think every 10k you need to wash the cotton and re-oil it with the appropriate stuff from the manufacturer. It lets in the smallest parts, which stick to the oil or PTFE and slowly build up as gunk inside the charger.

I use a paper filter as I prefer to open up my charger and see it clean in there - I change them regularly. Paper filter = happy charger.

I have used one for 3 years and never had any problems. I take mine off every 5k and clean and re oil with the K&N stuff.

OK, so it doesn't look so bad.

More opinions from people with cone filters are welcome. :)

it's true if you let them get dirty and don't re-oil them every so often.  They rely on the oil to do proper filtering.  If you look after one then it'll be fine.

OK, so with a proper maintenance there shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks a lot!
