Hey...

I'm going to be re-doing the underseal on my black g40 and the heatshield has torn and sagged around the gearstick area... just wonderng if anywhere  offers a direct replacement (vw?) for the full tunnel or whetheryou need to freestyle one...

Cheers

I ran for years without one; just drive fast all the time.

i just went to the local breakers and got a heatshield from a new passat you could use any, there massive on new cars - so i just cut the shape i needed out and then shaped and formed it into a G40 shape one.

Alternatively you could wrap the exhaust

I dont bother with it on mine, never caused any problems. makes the tunnel warm but that's about it

I read some where that its not a great idea to heat wrap exhausts? Is that true?

Wraps tend to heat the cylinder head, as a side effect, if u heat wrap the exhaust manifold but they have decreasing effect the further down u wrap the exhaust! So if u start after the catalytic converter (provided there is still one there) it will heat it up a bit but it will have no effect on the cylinder head cause most of the heat has already been emitted. Also it depends on what material u wrap it with, I know that they used to use asbestos which is highly toxic to make heat wraps but I don't know what they use these days! The main reason why they started using heat wraps was to increase the heat of the exhaust fumes to increase their kinetic energy to spool up turbos faster or just have a bit of a better flow on the exhaust.
