changing gearbox oil
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:06:30 pm »
Hi guys.

Gonna change the 'box oil this weekend and need to know a couple of things. It's a 17mm bit required for the plug yes? When filling it back up do u just fill it til it is coming out the top of the filling point or do you have to measure out the right amount? The fill plug and the drain plug are in line with each other by the passenger side drive shaft right also are there any seals or copper washers on the plugs that need replaced?

Cheers guys.

- 17mm hex key

- fill to the bottom of the fill hole, till it starts coming out basically.  This is with the box installed in the car and the car on a flat level surface.  It'll take about 3 litres, total capacity is 3.1 litres but you'll not get every last bit of the old stuff out without separating the box

- yes plugs are both near the nearside driveshaft

- no washer or anything

hope that helps.

Remember to make sure to crack off the fill plug first. You dont want to be in the situation where you have drained all the old stuff out and then you cant fill up from the top one because its seized solid.
