a warning to all! storing superchargers
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:59:03 pm »
I seem to see more and more chargers with corrosion on the scroll.  This is due to being stored in damp conditions.

If a charger is off the car - store it in the house preferably with a light coating of oil on the scroll if apart.  Otherwise corrosion could render it useless!!!   - casing don't really suffer like the scroll, which also does not like most parts washer fluid either!

I think something like this comes up every winter when you're putting the baby to bed. I favour running the engine up at least every two weeks, but if you're letting it lie for longer or removing the charger spray down the inlet with stuff called lay up oil; one called ROK OIL comes to mind. This covers the internals with a sticky protective coating which can last for a couple of years. People lay up outboard motors costing tens of thousands using this stuff, your charger will be OK with it.
