G40 rebuilt - prices? - whats needed?

right ive finealy joind after being told that you people are the people in the know on g40s!!

I dont actully have a G yet but am going to have a looky at 2 on sunday! 1 grey, 1 petrol blue! both witch have mileage in excess of 180k and no sign of any major service, so the plan is a rebuild! im thinking new shells, ring, smallend bearings and valves. would that be good enoth or is there anythink that i should do whilst im there?
And how easy is it to come across the parts? would VW do them? and and what sort of prices roughly? i get trade discounts aswell so im hoping there not pricey as im on budget!

any advice would be very gratefull, ill get some pics up if i buy one of them on sunday, if not ill wait till one i fancy comes along.

Can't really think if you've forgot anything there, VW will do all the parts.  I hope your discount is good though or it'll cost a lot.  You could also get most of the parts from GSF Car Parts.

well i work in a garage so nomally 10% off,  glad to hear i got everythink! unfortuneatly GSF near me has just shut down! bad times! lol ill keep you posted!

true will have it done very soon..just waiting on the prices from vw which ill get a week today when im off.  waiting on torque settings off a member on here...

the list will have every single thing  (mechanical) you'll need to rebuild the headand block with vw part numbers and current prices.

mate your a legend! the part numbers are gonna save me so much time, the parts men at the 2 vw's near me are as usefull as a chocolate teapot!

 I`m going to GSF (Accrington) tomorrow to price up some bits and pick up me rear brake
 cylinders so i could price up engine bits while i`m there.
 Be nice to know from you chaps what success you`ve had with GSF parts.
 I rebuilt a mk2 1ltr engine some years ago and it was £4.78p each for Genuine VW
 Valve Guides and £1.70p each for GSF ones and they checked out on original spec
 exactly. Think ring set was £33 and around the same for each set of shells.
 
 so from GSF i`ll get as follows

 Engine list- Head Gasket Set
                 Block   "        "
                 Big End Shells
                 Small End Bearings
                 Piston Rings
                 Main Shells
                 Water Pump
                 Valve Guides (Valves will be VAG Only as sodium Filled)
                 Timing Belt.
 
 Then theres oil filter and stuff but Can`t think of owt else at mo.
 I have a G40 Engine to rebuild as well so be nice
 to have both VAG and GSF prices.
