Help me turbocharge my G40
« on: September 15, 2011, 09:19:33 pm »
Hi

I got a MK3 G40 that im looking to turbocharge.
Ive found a couple of different kits and heres the different alternatives:

Option 1: Emtec Racing Turbokit
http://www.emtec-racing.de/Turbokits.htm

Seems like the best choice, very reasonable and everything is included. But is this too cheap? The turbo is probably not of the best quality, also they seem to be slow on answering emails.

Option 2: Bar Tek Tuning Turbokit
http://www.bar-tek-tuning.com/lshop,showdetail,6164,en,1316117873-6164,1169360067.1204708405,2240006,12,Tshowrub--1169360067.1204708405,.htm

Seems like good quality but is 700 euros more.

Option 3: Rothe Motorsport manifold and downpipe
http://www.rothe-motorsport.de/tuningteile/teile.html

The choice most people go with, but if i go with this one, i have to get a turbo, intercooler, oilpipes, chip etc and i have no idea where to get all that stuff.

Option 4: get a custommade manifold and downpipe.

Last option really.

Could someone please help me out :E

Phil j does manifolds and downpipes for either the k03 or k04

Good prices, also you can build the kit up to your exact requirements making sure you only pay once for bits that fit how you want!!! Unlike some of these full kits

When I was going turbo, this was what I had. Since sold it though...

Emtec kit doesn't fit very well.

Don't know anything about the Bar-Tek one.

Rothe stuff is good, you can buy a full kit from them:
http://www.rothe-motorsport.de/marken/vw/vw_polo_86c_g40.html
...or you can get a used turbo from a Passat 1.8t 20v, intercooler of your choice, oil and water lines from a local hydraulics supplier etc. - details on this site tell you what fittings you need. And we (Polo PP) do a range of chips for K03 turbo'd G40s.

PhilJ manifold and downpipe is also an option, in theory the cast Rothe manifold is going to be stronger, but I've not heard of anyone having trouble with one of Phil's steel manifolds.

I went with a Rothe manifold purely because I always intended to run high boost, so with everything getting stinking hot I wanted plenty of strength there.
