My system is fully drained and has been flushed, ready for new coolant what's the best to use ?Haynes just says ethylene glycol based anti-freeze so I'm assume it doesn't matter to much? I've got 5L of red anti freeze I used to use on my old corsa when it used to leak alot is it coool to use that?
Same for brake fluid, Haynes says dot 4 seen some people use dot 5 and I'm considering using atomec silicone fluid any one used it or recommend me a fluid ? Also how much brake fluid will I need ??

use g12+ or whatever VW are calling it today.

There used to be 2 different types but they stopped that years ago so you should be able to use anything off the shelf for antifreeze/coolant.

There's a table on wikipedia useful for comparing brake fluid boiling temps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_fluid#Boiling_point

I missed the brake fluid question.  Just use normal dot4.  dot5 silicon stuff is hygroscopic and needs to be changed much more regularly than dot 4 gylcol-ether stuff.  I use Motul RBF600 in mine and it's never let me down at track days, can't see the point in silicon stuff.

How much brake fluid would you need to do the whole system?

1 litre is more than enough.  Mine didn't even take 500ml but I only have one pipe from front to back.

Ok so 2 bottles should be plenty. Always good to have spare fluid.

Dot 5 isn't, Dot 5.1 is  ;) True DOT 5 is harder to come by, abit crap as a brake fluid by all accounts, silicone compresses lots compared to polyglycol (normal brake fluid).

I also use RBF600- no problems for me  :)
