Evening all just a quick question I've got my logbook back and it doesn't say it's a polo g40 it just says polo coupe can you change the details on the logbook as it is an original g40

Alex

Pretty sure you can't change the model name. It could've been registered wrong, but are you sure it's not a reshell or a conversion?

matthg40

It is reshelled I've put my engine in a polo g40 shell as my bulkhead has rusted on my old one but it is defiantly an original g40

DKnight

in all my time of owning g40's i have never seen one that does not come up as a G40 on the log book

you got any pics?

PeteG40

how do you know its an original g40?

if its not on the log book... only way of proving so is to go to vw with chassis number - see what they say.

I've owned about 10 ish g40s (shock horror), and All have said g40 on the v5

matthg40

I was told there's an id sticker in the boot that states it's a g40 and I was told the py engine was a polo g40 engine code

ereeiz

The sticker in the boot is a VW thing, it's not G40 specific. However the codes on there should be the original codes of everything installed on the car (ie. chassis no, engine no, paint code, extra trim/ add-on codes) So it should say PY for the engine. You can normally visit a dealers and request the previous history from it too although it sometimes means having to go to the dealership it was sold from as not all the info is on the network and is occasionally held locally (was when I worked there anyway).

matthg40

The codes match up I've spoke to the dude who sold it he's convinced it's an original with the py code chassis number paint trim etc I'm only so bothered as I wanted another original g40

ereeiz

Sounds like it is then. It's not unusual for stuff to be registered incorrectly or info missed out, it all depends on who does the paperwork. Pissed me off when I learnt that, but that's just the way it is it seems- inconsistent!

I'd ring VW and try to get through to someone who can tell you for definite.  Codes on the car matching the logbook don't really mean much.  My log book shows the PY engine code (because I changed it years ago) but my car is a GT.

PeteG40

with due respect - vw will be more trustworthy than the bloke who sold it

chris2911

had same problem with my lhd genesis.

dvla put is down as a polo genesis not a g40 so i got confomation off vw dealer and a computer printout
and sent it back to dvla who changed logbook to polo g40.

no proof and the wont change anything

matthg40

Ok I will ring Vw and ask them for the history of the car thanks all
