« on: September 05, 2008, 10:35:24 pm »

are there visible marking or bits i can see to tell if its been ported or stage 4 or anything really!!

pictures would be a gr8 help for a fumb duck like me lol

wat kind of power differences are there in different stages or portin and pulley sizes?

porting you can see by looking at the outlet (give some indication) post some pics of it off the car.

porting flows air a bit better, you only really get any differences with a pulley and chip

My pleasure,

here are a few pics of the typical porting that you can identify on the G40.

First is lightly ported, note the thicker vane at oil supply intake, this vane is typical of all the vanes if no porting has taken lpace, though this charger has been lightly ported ion the other vanes,
Inside,

and Out

This charger once again still shows the thicket oil feed vane, but the other vanes have been pretty much maxed out as far as material removal go's.

Once again inside

and Out

Beside this porting on the outlet vanes, chargers should be ported on the scoll pass through port/vanes, this is a lot more tricky due to the restricted access, and if too much material is removed then the scroll can be more prone to failure, plus the balance shaft will need to be tweeked to avoid vibration issues.

not only porting on the outlet (btw g-spot you can take a little more out on the centre looking from the outside - but not much more and on the 'hex' bit of the seal - later psd ones are round there - even less material!) but its key inside on the inlet shallow channel.

I wonder how many completely standard chargers are left now. Can't be many, surely.

well im wondering because the g40 i bought was from i guy i previously got my gt from..

and he sold me a gt which had this crazy 300 degeree cam in it which he claimed he knew nothing about.. he sayed he knew it had summin done to it ..

same goes with the g40 i just came across a fast road piper cam and it already had a 65mm pulley on it.. wats to say the charger aint been touched.. he bought this g40 from england i think..

came in an old banger shell light blue or green.. and took the engine out it.

I've got a standard one sitting in my wardrobe...though I doubt it'll stay that way.
