Cam belt cover order
« on: November 11, 2010, 04:27:48 pm »
Just wanna check this is the rite order as I wanna time my engine up buy dnt wanna have to take the belt on and of again.
Inner cover and crank sproket on crank with timing disc time engine up the. Just put the bottom and outer cover go on afterwards.
Also as a side note what have people used as pointers on there turbo conversions, ive lost my metal one. As I'm assuming that the pointer doesn't line up with the non g40 auxillary pulley.

to time mine up I made a new TDC mark using a dti gauge while I had the head off:

as like you, I assumed the metal g40 pointer may not match the marks on the non-g40 pulley.  You could always fit a non-g40 inner timing belt cover (they may in fact all be the same now actually) which has the timing pointer on.  but it's still better to get a dti gauge on to ensure it is correct.
