torque settings
« on: August 14, 2010, 05:56:54 pm »
Quick question about torque wrench settings for suspension and steering bits. got my haynes manual out and its got all the specific torques to do things up to although alot of you probably dont bother with torque wrenching everything as this is the first time ive stripped and replace pretty much all of the suspension parts im going to use the specific torque settings so next time i do it ive got a rough idea of how tight certain things should be done back up again.
Just wondering if somone could clarify witch bit some of these bits are describing.
I would like to know how tight to do .he locking nut on the top of the strut wich holds the strut into the shock tower.
and these are the options in the haynes manual

strut to body 60nm
shock absober rod to top mount 50nm
strut cap 150 nm

could somone explain wich one is wich here for me please ?

strut to body 60nm - the one at the top which you are asking about.
shock absober rod to top mount 50nm - slotted nut holding the top mount onto the piston.
strut cap 150 nm - cap that holds the cartridge in place.

I guess special tools are needed to tighten 2 and 3 properly.

thanks for clearing that up for me. and yes i suppose special tools would be needed to torque them up to the correct torque settings.
