Removing struts
« on: June 07, 2010, 06:21:43 pm »
Just got my struts held in by the nut at the top that sits in the middle of the suspension turrets I can undo it as it's been threadlocked and I can get a decent grip of the nut as it's sat in the top mount so normal spanner olwint fit sockets no deep enough and a deep socket doesn't leave a hole in the top for me to get an Allen key in the stud to stop it moving what tool am I looking for any one help me out thanks By the way it's h+r coilovers not standard suspension

I use a socket with a couple of flats ground in it so you can turn it with a spanner. That way you can still get the allen key in through the top.

Or a spark plug socket with a hex on the end. Worked on my mk2 Golf but I can't remember if the nut on the Polo is the same size. I find it best to crack those nuts with the car on the ground before starting.

Dunno if you still have the problem but as said a swan necked spanner is the job. I didnt have the right size in them so used a normal 17mm spanner and just held it at an angle, it works quite well :)
