As above, i heard they are due to the mount being different because of charger?

PeteG40

they are fixed mount - i.e. you tension belts with charger. All other mk3 the alternator tensions it.

So theres no way i could use a non g40 one running a charger?

PeteG40

you might be able to bodge it on yeah, but not ideal.

Some mk1 golf alternators are the same (some have spade connectors not bolt on tho)

Nice one Pete. From looking at the list of compatible cars, does it suggest that an alternator for a 1.3 mk2 is the same?

PeteG40

it does, but all mk2 ones i've seen are the same as mk3 normal ones

ask Buster-G40 if he can get you a new bosch one. With postage, was still tons cheaper than everywhere else ;)

I've read somewhere that there's a Scirroco one that will fit, need to swap the pulley. I guess they're quite likely to be the same as the mk1 Golf ones that Pete mentioned.

polo classic

The G40 uses the same alternator as some of the 1,4L Polo's, but with different pulley.

Only difference from the other Polo's is that they are rated 65 amp vs 55 for the regular
