fuel pump runs with ignition off...
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:16:25 pm »
Hi all, my fuel pump started squeaking a wee bit the other day, and today it was squeaking without any keys in the ignition, but the interior light was on all night so the battery was flat,  has anyone had any issues like this?

bear in mind that this engine is in a mk1 golf, i wired it in myself with a brick trowel......

seriously though, its been fine so far.

Check the fuel pump relay. Or even better, just replace it for peace of mind (they're only a few quid). Relays can intermittently stick and cause all sorts of annoying grief that doesn't follow any pattern. Next time it does it try just flicking the relay with your finger and see if it stops.

After that, check your connections, I assume you've had to solder some connections together (good), or used connectors (nasty, they let water in and corrode unless waterproof and increase resistance).
