I know this has been touched on before so I'll try n keep it brief.
Planning about 180ft lb going for a new clutch but I live I. A town an will need to driv around town A buy as well as I want to be able to park it without manor hassle. I rang cg motorsport and he said with that power I wanted a paddle clutch although he said there either on or off. Should I be looking more at an organic lined uprated on rather than paddle.
I will prolly do a couple drag days nothin to much though.and do paddle clutches wheat quicker than a normal type one . Do they wear out the flywheel aswell as there a harder material.
Whats your experiences of helix paddle clutchs are they reasonably easy to live with ??? Thanks

hayesey

dont put a paddle in a daily driver, you'll hate it.  An organic lined normal clutch plate is what you want.

I thought so I'm going to either go for a cg motorsport one or a helix one but helix are very pricey. It's not a daily driver it's a weekend driver really but I think a paddle a bit of a pain In The ass to drive on the road isn't it ? Has any one got one in a car they use on the road ??
The other option the bloke at cg offered was a 5 or 6 paddle clutch he said this may be a little better to drive on road. How does the number of paddles effect how it works??
Ladtly he said an uprated standardish clutch is good for 25% more tourque and iirc Reading that a standard g40 clutch will cope with 150 ft lb the. That gives me around 180ft lb woch is roughly my target! Although the bloke on the phone wasn't all that helpful he didn't want to tell me prices or help menfind the right clutch realy as I could find the g40 model on there website !

well I use my car on the road too but not often.  It's not nice in a traffic jam on the motorway.

In terms of what you said about them not lasting long, I guess a paddle wont last as long but they're only about £50-£60 or so to get them re-sintered.

I wrang them back and I think I'm going to go for a 6-paddle clutch. Just wondering weather or not it's worth it to get my flywheel lightened or just leave it alone, as they get a bit fragile don't they? I don't fancy it breaking up as I rekon it could make quite a bit of mess.
Ive currently got a gt box on there so I'm assuming my flywheel will be smaller than a proper g40 one so I rekon I'll need a new one of these aswell.

gt ones are the same - all mk3s are.. it might have a lip that needs skimming off though as gt clutches are smaller

lance

leave your flywheel alone too mate, they are not heavy plus by skimming weight off them you loose road speed.

Ive got lances old solid centre 200mm paddle clutch with a standard ABD (190mm?) pressure plate. Its a bit of a ball ache day to day but boy can it handle the beans.

No point lightening the flywheel really, it will judt be even more inclined to spin the wheels.

I'll use my flywhell n get the lip skimmed of then by a machine shop and get myself a 6 paddle clutch with a spring centre thanks guys been realy helpful as usual

giorgio

my G has a paddel clutch. avoid like the plauge for a road car.

it doesn't sound like you are listening to our advise anyway :)  Trust me, you'll soon regret fitting a paddle in a road car after being in a couple of motorway jams.  An organic plate will handle that power with no problems.

I thought an organic one would as it takes 25% more than standard, and a standard one will take quite alot around 150 bhp?? I asked at cg motorsport and they said an organic one or Kevlar one would more than likely slip and wouldn't work for me and I would be alot better with a paddle and a 6 paddle would be the best compromise.
I am listening to your advise and I have read over on other fourms that paddles can be a pain in the arse on the road but I was just going on what they told me as I thought they knew seeing as they are a clutch specialst !! I just don't wanna spend my cash on a clutch that ain't gonna be the right one for me.
If you guys all say get an uprated organic one as a paddle is a massive pain even a 6 paddle then that's what I'll do seeing you guys have them fitted in your g's.
Has any one ever driven a car with a 6 paddle??

hayesey

well people have used a standard clutch on 170bhp that I know of, possibly more.  It just doesn't last as long.

Maybe the CG organic clutches arent as good as Helix ones but they are certainly good for 180+bhp.  I just use a paddle for track days really and because I know I dont use the car on roads all the time

dub-disaster

Ok you say 180bhp+ I'm aiming for 200 bhp if you rekon a Kevlar one or organic one will take this then I'll go for it also other than cg motorsport know of any good clutch specialsts or stockists ? Thanks
