Wondered if anyone could give me any input. Its rebuild time and the garage knomes have stolen my coil pack...so i need another.

Seeing as most of the parts are new on the car i dont really want to get a second hand original unless its too much hassel not to if you get what i mean.

Does anyone run an uprated or aftermarket one and if so what and how much hassel?

Thanks guys

Jez

New stock was okay for me- although I've got an MSD one to try when it's back together.

didnt really want to spend £100+ on a new one from VW (if they still sell) when there are better to be had. I looked at the msd ones this morning but was confused as to what would be best to be honest? Which one have you gone for yoof?

gsf ones should be beru, which vw ones often are/

yes gsf, as Pete said, sell oem ones (beru)  the mounting part is slightly different though.  I found that an earth strap from a mk4 polo is exactly the same looking but just that little bit longer in order to fit the newer style coil.  I also found that some hex bolts used to attach the boost pipes to the charger are perfect to mount the coil to the inner wing.

a standard german made one from GSF is the best bet.  I can't see a £100+ MSD one making a bit of a difference unless you are running huge amounts of boost and/or nitrous.

Jez- if you're not running nitrous I'd keep the stock components, nitrous AF charge is harder to ignitie so requires more spark energy. I'm not sure if the MSD will be an improvement as of yet.

Nology also made some 'uprated' components which look suspiciously stock...

standard it will be then. GSF phone call now pending lol...

Needing a new coil myself, been searching the web, was wondering if anyone knows the difference between the 905 104 and the 905 105 part number is?? I've gathered that if there is an 'A' at the end it referrers to the 6 pin type, but thats about it!
What do GSF supplied coils cost?? Can't find it on there website?

PeteG40

i think gsf now sell on ebay - just email a few ebayers and ask the make... when a decent one comes up - buy that! usually a bit cheaper than gsftoo

jez1272gt

its probably the difference between product quality, GSF quoted me £20ish and £35ish depending on make..

There was a brand new one on eBay for £20 BIN. Wasn't VW though, I forgot which make now.

I did manage to get a brand new VW one on Freecycle a while back  ;D
