Scrapping g40's
« on: February 10, 2010, 06:53:57 pm »
Had a call from a customer of mine 2day to order some parts, anyway he said o its just an old polo!
So i stuck the reg in and up pops g40  :)
Anyway got talking to him about them and after 10 mins telling him all about them and him telling me its mint, low millage and owned by a german women who only rearly uses it to go home once a year were it gets serviced etc! He tells me that she has said she plans to use it as part of the scrappage deal!  :'(
Now im going to see it on friday (when he gets it back) and talk to the women see what she has to say but it got me thinking?
How many g40's have been scrapped becouse of this?
And is there rearly anything that can be done? I dout it as most g40's arnt worth 2k unless there mint etc so buying them off ppl who want to get 2k off a new car is off the cards!

offer her £1k as thats all she really getting for it via scrappage.  the other £1k the manufacturer themselves has to pay so if you buy a new car they'll give you that discount anyway as it makes no difference to them, in fact it's better as it's one less car they have to deliver to a scrapyard and one less load of paperwork!

I considered the scrapage thing at one point, however my house mate soon sorted me out with a quick slap round the face. Not heard of anyone else who has had it on the cards, mind you it is hardly like there are that many G40's around these days

Buy an old mk3 coupe in the same colour, slap the G40 plates on it, and she gets her £2k discount. You then get a G40 with no log book.

Get a stock MK3 engine and fit that in place of the G40 lump. For scrappage it just has to get there. We scrapped our old Ibiza for a new Mini (they don't normally do discounts so the £2K off was a decent result). The bloke said he didn't care if it only had 3 wheels so I had a few bits off it before it went. I don't think you will get away with ringing another Polo though. At the very least pinch the charger off it , swap the interior for an old drivers seat, and swap the alloys.

scrapping old classic cars should be an offence.

Amen to that. (Certain circumstances are permitted).
