kompressor1 POLO CUP
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:33:47 pm »
Hi,
I bought this car 5 years ago and sold it 3 years later. It's a real polo cup from Switzerland with all the "competition papers". It was all black when I bought it and I work about 4 months to put it in great conditions to go on trackdays but all the specifical parts were still on the car.
I really enjoy it and the big mystake of my life was to sold it :'(

In action

"The papers"

The car in is first life, during the cup...

I hope you'll enjoy..?

Thanks for sharing the pics, suspension looks to be the same UK G40 Cup spec, although cage looks different...

Engines stock and blueprinted, but filter and exhaust free.  G40 gearbox with road gear ratio but with a Gemini Phase 1 or later phase 2 LSD, sachs paddle clutch.

Safety Device cage.  Sachs Built suspension, set height and free spring rates.  Stock G40 brakes with free pad selection.  Internal fuel and brake lines, AP racing brake bias lever.  Dunlop slicks and wets, 165/520 13s if i remember.  Recaro kevlar or carbon seat.  TAS eccentric camber adjustable top mounts with top strut brace.  TAS ARB lowering blocks.  Ingition cut off and plumbed in fire extinguisher.  Taken off the production line before it saw any wax etc and Fully seam welding shell.  Think thats about it.  may have missed a few points though.

Many cars were modded throughout as the series went on, closer ratios for example, re maps, TB butterfly profiled, de wedged, stuff like that.  Heard many stories of the 'cheating' from ex G40 Cup racers, not uncommon in all forms of racing really, VW Cup was rife with it too.  Cars also got modded up abit more when it joined the super coupe cup with quite a few hidden mods.

So you'll find a fair few Cups that aren't the stock spec anymore.

I've heard stories of re-ground blocks to lower the water pump housing relative to deck height. Internal aquamsit systems routed inside boost pipes. Larger re-stamped crank pullies, re-maps, etc etc. How much of it is true, I've no idea.

From personal experience at VW Racing I know de-mister switches can add alot of bhp  ;)

So can disabling the 4wd Haldex system to run in front wheel drive only by notching up the handbrake by one click.  Or using headlight switch to switch to alternative ecu maps.  Or being able to switch off your rear brake lights by a crafty half turn of a toggle switch.

Or watching a certain Bettle Rsi come in at qualifying, then the ecu get plugged into the laptop and the map played with when the ecu was supposed to be a sealed unit.

Apparently... ;) :D

Or being able to lose the boost return and blank the charger 2nd inlet for engine safety cos the engine was throwing oil out of the breather tank on the track and oil contaminating the mixture thus losing power thus losing time on every lap of qualifying.  I dont recall anyone mentioning the upside of increasing our power and response aswell ;) :D

All conjecture btw! ;)

My ex Cup car

Few differances from the pics of your car.
Roll bar mounts, and no 4 branch, also had a different strut brace.

Cage looks a little different

Same strut with original cup spring
