cheap piston rings from GSF

I bought a set of piston rings from GSF today.  Amazingly I only paid £8 for the full set for all four pistons.  They are Goetze/Federal Mogul ones so I think OE quality.  The bloke in GSF said they were so cheap because they are getting rid of stock and they will soon be obsolete.  He even reckoned they were going obsolete at VW too.  He said they have 5 sets left and then that's it.  They will still be available from engine builders and the manufacturer but by the. sounds of it, not VW or GSF.

So if you think you'll need a set in the near future, get to GSF and grab a bargain.  I was tempted to buy a couple of sets but really seems pointless.  Next time I re-ring pistons for my g40 it'll be oversize pistons.

so 8 quid for a full set?  and are these decent quality haze?  i might go get a set tomorrow then if thats the case.  do i just ask for g40 ones?

hayesey

yeah g40 ones are just the same as normal 1.3 mk3 rings.  It says for GTs on the box too but I'm told they aren't actualy right for GTs.

they ahouldnt be gt's have different rings to the rest of them according to etka.  might have a dodge to gsf...

hayesey

it's weird because even the label on the box which is printed by the manufacturer lists GT as well as all the others.  But yeah I know they are no good for GTs.

well i snapped one in the process of messin with it whilst sitting here bloody donkey! ha ha. ahhh well ruined....crazy cat..should of known better just wasnt thinking, just in a day dream! ha ha

as long as i can buy them from engine specialists when i need them who cares...although i bet it wont cost me 8 quid!

hayesey

yeah they are easy to snap, you need to use a proper ring expander (chortle) and only open it up just enough to fit over the piston crown.

dan I learnt the hard way when I snapped one rebuilding my bros engine. He was not pleased since he went VAG original on everything
