Hi guys,
Im just wondering what is the standard rev limit on the G. Also if I was to get a different chip or a remap would they go on what spec my engine is, what power im running, and that sort of stuff to figure out where it should limit? Obviously the components have a tolerancy, so what is a safe limit to have the limiter set to? As I understand hitting the limiter is bad for the charger seals so I try not to be to mean to the G but occasionally get carried away with mates and these things happen lol. But im getting a few mods in place currently and want my puppy to be set to a safe degree so I dont blow anything.

Thanks

6500rpm.  PPP seem to have mod specific chips but obviously there are no engine exactly the same etc etc.  Not sure if PPP up the rev limit or not on their chips, Andy can tell you that.  The SNS chips used to have a 8000rpm limit on them but this was more to do with people having toothed belts so they could still change at 6000-6200rpm, but still far away from the limiter.

Hitting the limiter isn't the best thing in the world for the charger but its better to get away with it on vee belts as the vee gives the pulley some slip as opposed to tooth belts which don't.

Bear in mind though that just because limiter is set at a certain rpm, it doesn't mean you need to drive to it.  Your peak power probably being made at 6000rpm, so changing at 6250rpm will drop you back into the power band.  Your car won't be making any more power past that point so hitting the limiter is a totally pointless exercise.

A chip that has an increased limit does not mean that it is making power up there, get it RR'd, see where your peak power is being made and change gear at that or just over for best acceleration.

Hope that helps.

Nice one mate, that makes complete sense. I totally know what you mean sometimes get carried away though. Yeah I pressume that the power isn't necessarily at the limiter so it's pointless hitting it. Just I love my little car so I just want to be aware of the tolerance. Also I don't want to go and buy an 8k chip when it's not nesessary. I am getting a rr session done hopefully next week if the guy is available as I want to get ignition and timing spot on before I start doing the mods and chipping it. And will also give me an indication of the change in power.

I think it helps knowing the small things, prevents big problems.

Thanks for the response mate, much appreciated

Good point well made- we can do chips for any rev limit- but when revving above 6500rpm you will be using the last line in the map, I.E your fueling/ignition vaules at 6.5k+ will all be the same, far from ideal...

Really helpful, thanks.
